27 Apr ASBJØRN presents ‘the BOYOLOGY serieS’
The forthcoming, long-awaited LP BOYOLOGY is “a study of the relation between vulnerability and masculinity”, Asbjørn reflects. “I always thought of myself as a natural born gender bender, but suddenly I saw myself reacting to heartache by oppressing it in this super stereotypical way. The album confronts that within myself as well as outside; I want to discuss those invisible expectations, in society and pop culture, of what a man should or should not be”.
The release of Young Dumb Crazy marks the beginning of the Danish pop-mavericks interconnected video-trilogy. When Asbjørn released his sophomore-album Pseudo Visions in 2015, his strikingly unconventional pop-songs were accompanied by a total of 9 videos, accumulating millions of views and solidifying his status as one of Scandinavia’s most visionary upcoming artists. The long-awaited forthcoming LP, BOYOLOGY, expands and continues his unique artistry and sense of narrative in the autobiographical Boyology Series.
Describing the album and video-trilogy as “a study of the relation between vulnerability and masculinity”, Asbjørn invites the viewer to be a fly on the wall in the middle of his heartache. ‘Young Dumb Crazy’, the first video of the series, feels like a unusually private glimpse into the process of dealing with sorrow. “You have a choice to either face your own vulnerability or oppress it”, Asbjørn reflects. “And I think most men choose the latter because of invisible expectations, in society and pop culture, of what a man should or should not be. This video-series is my way of confronting that within myself and hope it adds nuances to the conversation about these expectations.”
The trilogy is created in collaboration with Danish documentary filmmaker Kathrine Skibsted (“Forever Young Forever Old – A Love Story”, “Loves Me, Loves Me Not”).
‘Young Dumb Crazy’ will be released on May 7 via Embassy of Music and Body of Work.
